Market Collective turns 10

Market Collective turns 10

Well, the season of Christmas shopping is in full swing and that means a huge opportunity to shop local and support all the wonderful artists and artisans in our city. Market Collective has thankfully been providing Calgarians access to local handmade goods for the past 10 years! This year they are hosting a super special, better-than-ever, highly anticipated 10 year anniversary & holiday market at the BMO centre for two weekends - Dec 7-9 & Dec 14 - 16.

So what makes this year so special? This year is the first time MC will be hosted at the BMO Centre, which means way more space to fit way more vendors - over 150 this year.

There will also be live art installations, beer gardens, food trucks, interactive workshops, live music and DJ’s, a skate park, and tons of surprises. It is much more than a market, it is a fun way to spend a weekend while discovering new local artists, musicians, food vendors and more.

Its an opportunity to support the wonderful entrepreneurs in this province, and get a full dose of community and creativity. The music lineup alone is reason enough to visit - with local greats such as Reuben and the Dark, I am the Mountain, Liz Stevens, Amy Nelson, The Torchettes, Windigo and even their own Market Collective Choir providing the tunes. Full lineup is below.

 HISTORY

Founded by Angel Guerra and Angela Dione in 2008, Market Collective began as a way to promote local artists and culture in the city, and has evolved into a cultural hub for the city, providing a collaborative and engaging environment.

Their inaugural Market Collective saw 500 visitors and 30 vendors, and has grown to over 40,000 visitors, 150 vendors and counting. They stand by their commitment to artists, ensuring they keep 100% of their profits, which helps keep artists in the city and gives them the opportunity to grow their businesses.

Market Collective’s reach extends beyond a traditional market - they provide co-working spaces, extensive social promotion for artists and musicians, and DIY workshops throughout the year. They also invite collaborations with local businesses, including us at Village Brewery!

Village + MC COLLaboration
Last winter we were lucky enough to partner with MC on our Winter Variety Pack, with 24 unique beer labels designed by 24 Alberta artists, including Mandy Stobo, Jason Blower, Kim Smith, Katie Green and more. It was an exciting opportunity to showcase these artists and bring a fresh spin to our beer labels.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              What's next?
As Market Collective looks to the future, they are focused on being more than an artist market, but an organization that has the ability to change the landscape of their city. They have definitely been successful thus far and we are excited to see what the future of Market Collective brings.
