Pat Henry
Pat or ‘Path’ as he is known around the brewery is one of our star brewers. Yes, all of our brewers are stars, but he is definitely a vital part of the team – and has unanimously been voted the most charming. You can see him any day around the brewery, without fail wearing overalls, rubber boots, and a giant smile.
Other than being described as incredibly charming, people around the brewery note his strength, saying he is definitely the go-to guy if you need a jar of pickles opened or if you need some firewood. He’s super outdoorsy and loves to fish, donning a sweet fishing tattoo and spending as much time as he can reelin them in. He will outsmart you on all facts about wolves, is BIG into lacrosse, loves to camp, and of course, enjoys all things beer.
Speaking of beer - he just brewed a special beer for us, called PIPA (Pat’s IPA). The PIPA is an unfiltered American style IPA. It is hazy gold in colour, has a large tropical fruit aroma, followed by a medium bitterness that is balanced by a slight malt sweetness. Its dry Hopped with galaxy and Vic secret. So Pat, how did you get your start in the industry?
I worked in a craft beer/wine market for 5 years or so which got me into loving craft beer. It eventually led me to take the Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program at Olds College.
What does your day to day at Village look like?
It varies from day to day! But it generally consists of brewing our beer, making cider, centrifuging/filtering beer, cleaning tanks, etc.
What is the best part of your job?
My job as a whole is pretty awesome! But I would have to say seeing people enjoying our beer and getting positive feedback is the most gratifying part of my job.
What are your passions outside of work?
Fishing, snowboarding, surfing, playing lacrosse, and of course, drinking beer!
Favourite memory since joining the team?
Spreading Christmas cheer by going on the Village bar crawl every year and buying people Village beers.
Favourite Village beer?
Neighbour, PIPA.
Favourite non-Village Beer?
Bale Breaker Bottom Cutter.
